Welcome to DArtschool.

My name is Brad and i am a self taught photographer with 6 years of live event photography experience. Today's lesson is photography 101, in future journals we will be going into depth on some more of the technical elements but for today we are going to give you a basic understand of your camera.

So for you to understand how a camera works you need to no the parts of your camera.

sensor/film - the sensor of a digital camera, and the film of a film camera is what the light will react with to create you picture. for film the light reacts with the film in a chemical reaction and imprints on your negative. with dslr's it is the same principle but instead of reacting with the film it will send the image that is captured on to you memory card with the pixle infomation that has been captured.

The shutter - this allows light to hit the sensor, your shutter speed is the term we use to tell how much light hits the sensor/film.

aperture - The aperture is the size of the lens opening. It controls the amount of light let in: a larger aperture lets in more light, while a smaller aperture lets in less light.

ISO - ISO stands for International Standards Organization, but it is actually just the sensitivity of the film or digital sensor to light.

lens - A piece of glass or other transparent substance with curved sides for concentrating or dispersing light rays.

So that is the basics.
Hope you got a little bit excited we will go more in depth, in the next few journals.
Feel free to note the group if you want to know more or have a subject you would like to be covered more.
Thats it from me hope you enjoy it
